Assessment of trace and macroelement accumulation in cyprinid juveniles as bioindicators of aquatic pollution: effects of diets and habitat preferences.

Juveniles of three cyprinids with various diets and habitat preferences were collected from the Szamos River (Hungary) during a period of pollution in November 2013: the herbivorous, benthic nase (Chondrostoma nasus), the benthivorous, benthic barbel (Barbus barbus), and the omnivorous, pelagic chub (Squalius cephalus). Our study aimed to assess the accumulation of these elements across species with varying diets and habitat preferences, as well as their potential role in biomonitoring efforts. The Ca, K, Mg, Na, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Pb, Sr, and Zn concentration was analyzed in muscle, gills, and liver using MP-AES.

The Use of Radiomic Features to Predict Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Status in Head and Neck Tumors: A Review.

Head and neck cancers represent a significant source of morbidity and mortality across the world. The individual genetic makeup of each tumor can help to determine the course of treatment and can help clinicians predict prognosis. Non-invasive tools to determine the genetic status of these tumors, particularly p16 (human papillomavirus (HPV)) status could prove extremely valuable to treating clinicians and surgeons.

Graft Arterial Dissection and Thrombosis After Kidney Transplantation With Undiagnosed Fibromuscular Dysplasia From a Deceased Donor: Case Report and Review.

Background: Fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD), a relatively frequent arterial deformity with an estimated prevalence of 2% to 6% has been sporadically reported during deceased donor kidney donations. Only 8 case reports are available in the previous literature.

Case Presentation: In our work, implantation of 2 kidneys from the same deceased donor with macroscopically evident and later histologically confirmed FMD are presented, one of which ended up as acute arterial complication.

Tonsillectomy and poliomyelitis: Development of causality.

Objective: This paper serves to review the historical progression of clinical, epidemiological and immunological evidence on the relationship between tonsillectomy and poliomyelitis and its influence on clinical medicine.

Methods: A literature review was conducted using terms relating to poliomyelitis, tonsillectomy, and immunology. Primary sources published between 1900 and 2000 were reviewed, analyzed and evaluated based on their historical, clinical, epidemiological, scientific and immunological pertinence towards the relationship between tonsillectomy, and poliomyelitis during epidemics.
