[Rosuvastatin in prevention of cardiac complications following surgical treatment of patients with vascular pathology].

The article deals with the findings of studying the use of rosuvastatin in patients after endured reconstructive operations on the brachiocephalic arteries and aortofemoral segment in order to prevent cardiac atherothrombotic complications. A total of thirty patients were given "Crestors" at a daily dose of 10 mg for two weeks prior to surgery and for two weeks postoperatively and were found to have a significant decrease in the average levels of total cholesterol and low-density lipoproteins, which was accompanied and followed by certain improvement in the functional state of the vascular wall, with no cardiac complications being observed in either case.

Surgical management of atherosclerotic-aetiology vasorenal hypertension.

The present retrospective study was carried out to analyse clinical outcomes of 56 surgical interventions performed on renal arteries in a total of 48 patients suffering from atherosclerotic- aetiology vasorenal hypertension (VRH). Of these, 14 patients were subjected to stenting of renal vessels, 19 underwent aortorenal prosthetic repair, 11 patients endured transaortic endarterectomy (TEA), and four cases were treated by resection of the renal artery with reimplantation. The immediate postoperative outcomes turned out positive in 81% of the patients, to have remained so within an average follow-up period of up to 5 years in 72% of the patients.

[Statins in practice of the vascular surgeon and cardiologist].

The article deals with a review of the present-day literature data regarding administration of lipid-decreasing agents--statins in clinical practice of cardiologists and heart surgeons. In the context of the constantly accumulating evidence-based findings concerning efficacy of administration of statins in patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases, the authors describe the importance of therapy with statins in order to prevent complications after atherothrombosis.
