The composition of diet is one of the major determining factors for lifespan. The dietary pectins are known to have anti-inflammatory properties and may influence aging and longevity. Here we demonstrate the lifespan-extending effect of the low methyl esterified (LM) commercial pectins CU701 and AU701 in wild-type strain of Drosophila melanogaster.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the in vitro effects of vegetable carbohydrates on the activity of microbial β-glucuronidase (βG) and the adsorption of the enzyme on carbohydrates. This study used pectin-protein complexes (PPCs) with molecular weights of 300 kDa isolated under conditions simulating a gastric environment from cabbage (HCl-PPCC and HCl+pepsin-PPCCP) and sweet pepper (PPCP and PPCPP). As a sample for comparison, microcrystalline cellulose was used.

Acetylation of microtubules (MT) during endocytosis of epidermal growth factor receptor, c-ErbB1, was studied by confocal immunofluorescence microscopy. It was found that stimulation of endocytosis of c-ErbB1 complexed with the epidermal growth factor (EGF), resulted in continuous raising of MT acetylation that reached its maximum at 60-90 min and then went down to the control level. Simultaneously, the receptor-containing endosomes grew in size and were redistributed into juxtranuclear region.
