It is also highly important in the growing fields of cell and gene therapies. Glucose is a critical raw material necessary for effective cell growth and productivity; however, glucose is the highest risk animal-origin-free raw material for viral contamination, and often the highest risk raw material in the upstream process as more companies move to chemically defined media.

Spontaneous pneumoperitoneum: diagnostic and management difficulties.

Acute abdominal pain is a common presentation to the ED. Most patients undergo a chest radiograph as part of their initial investigations, which occasionally reveals pneumoperitoneum. The in vitro and in vivo enantioselectivity of etomidate implicates the GABAA receptor in general anaesthesia.

General anaesthetics exhibiting enantioselectivity afford valuable tools to assess the fundamental mechanisms underlying anaesthesia. Here, we characterised the actions of the R-(+)- and S-(-)-enantiomers of etomidate. In mice and tadpoles, R-(+)-etomidate was more potent (approximately 10-fold) than S-(-)-etomidate in producing loss of the righting reflex.

Novel water soluble 2,6-dimethoxyphenyl ester derivatives with intravenous anaesthetic activity.

A number of water soluble bis-amino-2,6-dimethoxyphenyl ester derivatives were found to exhibit improved anaesthetic activity in mice relative to propofol 1. Of the analogues disclosed, 44 was further profiled in rodents and found to be a superior agent to propofol for the induction and maintenance of anaesthesia.
