LC-MS/MS analysis of surface and lysate N-glycans of CHO-K1 cells: Structure, relative quantity, and absolute quantity.

Chinese hamster ovary (CHO)-K1 cells are widely used in biomedical research relevant to cancer, toxicity screening, and viruses, as well as in the production of recombinant proteins for biopharmaceuticals. In this study, liquid chromatography (LC)-electrospray ionization (ESI)-higher energy collisional dissociation (HCD)-tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) was used to characterize the surface and lysate N-glycans of CHO-K1 cells and analyze their structures. The relative quantity (%) of each N-glycan and absolute quantity (pmol) of total N-glycans were also obtained.

Identification and quantification of unreported sialylated N-glycan isomers with α2-3 and α2-6 linkages in the egg yolk protein phosvitin.

Phosvitin (PV), a highly phosphorylated protein found in chicken egg yolk, possesses multiple bioactivities (including anti-aging and anticancer) and functional properties (including emulsifier and metal-binding capacities). The carbohydrate moiety attached to PV has been reported, but its N-glycan structure is unknown. In this study, we performed structural and quantitative analyses of N-glycans from PV using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS).

Airineme-Mediated Intercellular Communication.

Intercellular communication is indispensable across multicellular organisms, and any aberration in this process can give rise to significant anomalies in developmental and homeostatic processes. Thus, a comprehensive understanding of its mechanisms is imperative for addressing human health-related concerns. Recent advances have expanded our understanding of intercellular communication by elucidating additional signaling modalities alongside established mechanisms.

Radial pulse diagnosis is the most common method to examine the human health state in Traditional East Asian Medicine (TEAM). A cold stress-related suboptimal health state (subhealth) is often undetectable during routine medical examinations, however, it can be detected through the palpation of specific pulse waves, particularly a 'tight pulse', in TEAM. Therefore, this study examined a correlation between 'tight pulse' and vascular changes in the radial artery (RA) induced by a cold pressor trial (CPT).

CD44 facilitates adhesive interactions in airineme-mediated intercellular signaling.

Specialized cellular protrusions facilitate local intercellular communications in various species, including mammals. Among these, airinemes play a crucial role in pigment pattern formation in zebrafish by mediating long-distance Notch signaling between pigment cells. Remarkably, airinemes exhibit large vesicle-like structure at their tips, which are pulled by macrophages and delivered to target cells.
