Metagenomic Sequencing of Lloviu Virus from Dead Schreiber's Bats in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bats are a natural host for a number of viruses, many of which are zoonotic and thus present a threat to human health. RNA viruses of the family many of which cause disease in humans, have been associated with specific bat hosts. Lloviu virus is a Filovirus which has been connected to mass mortality events in colonies in Spain and Hungary, and some studies have indicated its immense zoonotic potential.

Breed-specific evaluation of serum biochemical markers in canine hip dysplasia observed in a Tornjak dog population.

Objective: Canine hip dysplasia (CHD) is a global disease and an improved diagnostic approach to this orthopedic condition is needed, with an emphasis on inexpensive and minimally invasive techniques. This research aimed to determine the differentiating potential of selected biochemical markers in serum between healthy dogs and dogs with hip dysplasia in a breed-specific study that involved the Tornjak dog population.

Animals: 99 Tornjak dogs radiographically categorized (Federation Cynologique Internationale procedure and scoring scheme) between December 2019 and April 2021, as having no sign of hip dysplasia or near normal hip joints (nondysplastic group; n = 51) vs mild, moderate, or severe hip dysplasia (dysplastic group; 48).

Human Decidual CD1a Dendritic Cells Undergo Functional Maturation Program Mediated by Gp96.

Heat shock proteins (hsps), in certain circumstances, could shape unique features of decidual dendritic cells (DCs) that play a key role in inducing immunity as well as maintaining tolerance. The aim of the study was to assess the binding of gp96 to Toll-like receptor (TLR) 4 and CD91 receptors on decidual CD1a DCs present at the maternal-fetal interface in vitro as well as the influence of CD1a DCs maturation status. Immunohistology and immunofluorescence of paraffin-embedded first-trimester decidua tissue sections of normal and pathological (missed abortion MA and blighted ovum BO) pregnancies were performed together with flow cytometry detection of antigens in CD1a DCs after gp96 stimulation of decidual mononuclear cells.

At Embryo Implantation Site IL-35 Secreted by Trophoblast, Polarizing T Cells towards IL-35+ IL-10+ IL-4+ Th2-Type Cells, Could Favour Fetal Allograft Tolerance and Pregnancy Success.

We investigated the role of rhIL-35, at low concentrations compatible with those produced by human trophoblast cells (less than 1 ng/mL), on human T helper (Th) cell functions and the presence of decidual IL-35-producing Th cells in human pregnancy. We found that human trophoblast cells produced IL-35 but not IL-4 or IL-10. RhIL-35, at concentrations produced by human trophoblasts, polarized T cells towards IL-35+, IL-10+, IL-4+ Th2-type cells and to Foxp3+ EBI3+ p35+ T reg cells producing IL-35 but not IL-10 and IL-4.

The Evidence of SARS-CoV-2 Human-to-Pets Transmission in Household Settings in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The infection with SARS-CoV-2 virus in cats and dogs raised issue of human-to-animal transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in domestic pets in close contacts with their owners. Our study was designed to research this in the framework of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Using ELISA, AFIAS fluorescent immunoassay, RT-qPCR and WGS on Nanopore MinION platform with ARTIC Network Amplicon sequencing protocol for SARS-CoV-2, we showed that three out of thirteen dogs and one out of five cats from the households with confirmed human cases of COVID-19 in Bosnia-Herzegovina were infected with SARS-CoV-2.
