Bipedal walking while keeping the upper body upright is a complex task. One strategy to cope with this task is to direct the ground reaction forces toward a point above the centre of mass of the whole body, called virtual pivot point (VPP). This behaviour could be observed in various experimental studies for human and animal walking, but not for the humanoid robot LOLA.

Purpose: Although they are considered the 'gold standard' of evidence-based medicine, randomized controlled trials are still a rarity in orthopedic surgery. In the management of patients with multiple trauma, there is a current trend toward 'damage control orthopedics', but to date, there is no proof of the superiority of this concept in terms of evidence-based medicine. The purpose of this article is to present unexpected difficulties we encountered in successfully completing our randomized controlled trial and to discuss the problematic differences between theoretically planning a trial and real-life practical experience of implementing the plan, with attention to published strategies.

Even in cases of an early uncomplicated repositioning there is a high risk of associated intra-articular injuries, such as lesions of the labrum, ruptures of the ligament of the head of the femur and loose bodies. The degree of damage caused by dislocation of the hip becomes apparent with a highly increased risk of developing postinjury osteoarthritis after dislocation of the hip.
