Background: Permanent stoma (PS) is common following treatment of anastomotic leakage (AL) after anterior resection (AR) and ways of predicting successful treatment outcome are missing.

Purpose: To explore radiological variables in rectal contrast studies in their relation to end-result of PS following treatment for AL after AR.

Material And Methods: The Swedish Cancer Registry (SCRCR) was explored for AL cases after AR for rectal cancer in patients operated in the region of Skåne from 1 January 2001 to 31 December 2011.

Gastrointestinal bleeding during treatment with non -vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) may be caused by malignant lesions Gastrointestinal bleeding due to underlying malignancy may not be uncommon in real life patients on non vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) like dabigatran, rivaroxaban or apixaban. We performed a small pilot study in patients referred to endoscopy due to suspected gastrointestinal bleeding. In twenty NOAC-treated patients, we found four cases of manifest malignant colon tumors, one premalignant colon adenoma, and one gastric B-cell lymphoma.

Methods: The newly described--multigene analysis test (DiBiCol) identifying 7 inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)-specific genes in colonic mucosal biopsy differentiating between ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD) with active inflammation--is a new addition to existing methods with a higher stated sensitivity and specificity. Method biopsy material from 78 patients with a complicated course diagnosed as most probably UC in 38, CD in 18 and inflammatory bowel disease unclassified (IBDU) in 22 were investigated by DiBiCol.

Results: DiBiCol showed a pattern consistent with CD in 13 patients with UC and led to change of diagnosis in 3 patients and a strong suggestion of CD in 8 patients.

A custom in-the-ear (ITE) hearing aid fitting was compared to two over-the-ear (OTE) hearing aid fittings for each of 9 subjects with mild to moderately severe hearing losses. Speech intelligibility via the three instruments was compared using the Speech Intelligibility Rating (SIR) test. The relationship between functional gain and coupler gain was compared for the ITE and the higher rated OTE instruments.
