This article provides a review of the epidemiological data on mumps in France since 1986. The results of 26 years of monitoring in general practice by the Sentinel network are analysed, such as hospitalisation data between 2004 and 2010, as well as mortality data between 2000 and 2009. The annual incidence rate has plummeted between 1986 and 2011, from 859 cases per 100,000 inhabitants [95% CI: 798-920] to 9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants [95% CI: 4-14].
