The potential of using non-coding RNAs in forensic science applications.

With the continuous development and integration of molecular biology and forensic science, non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), especially ncRNAs with regulatory functions such as microRNA, long non-coding RNA, and circular RNA, have recently been actively explored by forensic scholars. In this study, we review the literature on these ncRNAs in various fields of forensic science, including postmortem interval determination, wound age estimation, forensic age assessment, cause of death analysis, and body fluid identification, aiming to evaluate the current research and provide a perspective for future applications.

A phase I human trial of mitoguazone and gemcitabine sequential bi-weekly treatment of cancer patients.

Our previous studies have demonstrated the existence of synergism in a combination therapy using mitoguazone and gemcitabine when the mitoguazone is administered 24 hours before gemcitabine. Based on the cell culture and animal experimental results, a phase I clinical trial was performed in order to determine the toxicity of the combined treatment. Mitoguazone and gemcitabine were administered sequentially: mitoguazone on day 1 and gemcitabine on day 2.

Modulation of cancer chemotherapeutic drugs has been attempted to increase efficacy and overcome resistance to the chemotherapeutic agent. Studies have shown schedule-dependent interactions in combined use of chemotherapeutic drugs. Mitoguazone (MGBG), an old drug with possible modulating activity, was used in combination with gemcitabine, a relatively new cancer drug, in treating tissue cultured human breast cancer cells and mammary rat tumors.

The effect of cola acuminata and cola nitida on gastric acid secretion.

Cola nuts are obtained from cola trees growing both wild and cultivated in the equatorial rain forest belf of Nigeria and the rest of West Coast of Africa. There are two common species namely cola accuminata which is multicotyledonous and cola nitida which is dicotyledonous. The cola nitida has two subspecies, alba and rubra (white and red respectively).
