Objectives: Small studies of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support for children with refractory septic shock (RSS) suggest that high-flow (≥ 150 mL/kg/min) venoarterial ECMO and a central cannulation strategy may be associated with lower odds of mortality. We therefore aimed to examine a large, international dataset of venoarterial ECMO patients for pediatric sepsis to identify outcomes associated with flow and cannulation site.
Design: Retrospective analysis of the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) database from January 1, 2000, to December 31, 2021.
The harmful algal bloom species, , forms annual, often intense blooms in the Gulf of Mexico, particularly along the west Florida shelf. Though the ability of blooms to cause mass mortalities in juvenile fish are well documented, the direct effect of bloom concentrations on larval fish has not been studied extensively. To better understand the potential effect of on larval fish survival, laboratory spawned red porgy () larvae from 4-26 days post-hatch were exposed to concentrations of observed in the field for either 24 or 48 h.

This study is the first to compare the performance of the fluorescent receptor binding assay (fRBA), neuroblastoma cell-based assay (CBA-N2a), and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) for the quantitative estimation of CTX contents in 30 samples, obtained from four French Polynesian strains of . fRBA was applied to matrix for the first time, and several parameters of the fRBA protocol were refined.

This study examines seasonal variation in total paralytic shellfish toxin concentrations and congener distribution in tissues of butter clams collected in three communities in the Kodiak Islands, Alaska: the City of Kodiak, Ouzinkie and Old Harbor. In response to questions from local harvesters, the efficacy of removing particular clam tissues on total toxin levels was also assessed.
