Carbonaceous chondrites (CCs) contain the earliest preserved Solar System material, and objects containing this material are targets of numerous sample return missions. Both laboratory and remote sensing data have shown that this material can be highly porous, but the origin and nature of this porosity is currently not well understood. Because the majority of porosity within CCs is submicron to micron in size, previous lab efforts have been restricted by the limited observational scale required to examine this porosity with currently available techniques.

Introduction: Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have successfully identified multiple independent genetic loci that harbour variants associated with Alzheimer's disease, but the exact causal genes and biological pathways are largely unknown.

Methods: To prioritise likely causal genes associated with Alzheimer's disease, we used S-PrediXcan to integrate expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) from the Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) study and CommonMind Consortium (CMC) with Alzheimer's disease GWAS summary statistics. We meta-analysed the GTEx results using S-MultiXcan, prioritised disease-implicated loci using a computational fine-mapping approach, and performed a biological pathway analysis on the gene-based results.

Background: X-ray computed tomography (CT) can non-destructively examine objects by producing three-dimensional images of their internal structure. Although the availability of biomedical micro-CT offers the increased access to scanners, CT images of dense objects are susceptible to artifacts particularly due to beam hardening.

Objective: This study proposes and evaluates a simple semi-empirical correction method for beam hardening and scatter that can be applied to biomedical scanners.

Background And Objectives: We investigated the incidence of ESKD after surgical management of kidney cancer in the Australian state of Queensland, and described patterns in the initiation of kidney replacement therapy resulting from kidney cancer across Australia.

Design, Setting, Participants, & Measurements: All newly diagnosed cases of kidney cancer in the Australian state of Queensland between January of 2009 and December of 2014 were ascertained through the Queensland Cancer Registry. There were 2739 patients included in our analysis.

The serum antibody responses and reactions of volunteers to a trivalent subunit influenza virus vaccine prepared using cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) or trivalent split vaccine prepared by ether-extraction, were essentially similar, although the antibody levels to the A/Brazil/78 (H1N1) components of the vaccine were greater in volunteers receiving the subunit preparation. Antibody responses to the vaccines were assessed using both the haemagglutination-inhibition (HI) and single radial haemolysis (SRH) tests. Although good correlation was found between the tests with respect to both antibody titres in individual sera and antibody responses in serum pairs to both A(H3N2 and H1N1) and B influenza viruses, the greater reliability of SRH, indicates this test should supplant the HI test for the routine measurement of antibody responses to influenza viruses.
