Single-Nucleotide Polymorphisms in the Thioredoxin Antioxidant System and Their Association with Diabetic Nephropathy in Slovenian Patients with Type 2 Diabetes-A Preliminary Study.

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a microvascular complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) that develops after years of T2DM and affects approximately one in four diabetic patients. Thioredoxin (TXN), thioredoxin reductase (TXNRD), and thioredoxin-interacting protein (TXNIP) are part of the thioredoxin antioxidant system, which is involved in DN. We included 897 Slovenian patients with T2DM lasting more than 10 years in our preliminary study.

An Oral Health Promotion Model Implemented in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.

: Global research has shown that 60-90% of school children have caries, and that oral health care is of great public health significance. We present the data of an oral health promotion Program conducted in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County (PGC), Croatia, from 2008 to 2019. The Program includes comprehensive preventive oral status assessments of first- and fifth-grade elementary school students, as well as oral health promotional and preventative activities for preschool children, pregnant women, and new mothers.

Towards safer mines: Analyzing occupational health and safety perceptions and injury patterns in Serbian underground mining.

Background: Mining is a high-risk sector, particularly in underground environments, where workers face daily hazards. This research evaluates workplace safety perceptions in Serbian underground coal mines, ranking workers by education, age, and job role, while incorporating injury data to provide a comprehensive assessment of safety across different worker groups.

Objective: This study is aimed at analyses of the correlation between occupational health and safety (OHS) perceptions and the injury index across different worker groups, to identify improvement opportunities and propose targeted measures for enhancing OHS practices.

Ergothioneine improves healthspan of aged animals by enhancing cGPDH activity through CSE-dependent persulfidation.

Ergothioneine (ET), a dietary thione/thiol, is receiving growing attention for its possible benefits in healthy aging and metabolic resilience. Our study investigates ET's effects on healthspan in aged animals, revealing lifespan extension and enhanced mobility in Caenorhabditis elegans, accompanied by improved stress resistance and reduced age-associated biomarkers. In aged rats, ET administration enhances exercise endurance, muscle mass, and vascularization, concomitant with higher NAD levels in muscle.
