Background/objectives: Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) present significant challenges in modern healthcare, leading to increased morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. Examination gloves play a critical role in infection prevention by serving as a barrier to reduce the risk of cross-contamination between healthcare workers and patients. This manuscript aims to provide consensus-based guidelines for the optimal selection, use, and disposal of examination gloves in healthcare settings, addressing both infection prevention and environmental sustainability.

Despite the unique and complex nature of cancer pain, the activation of different ion channels can be related to the initiation and maintenance of pain. The transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 (TRPV4) is a cation channel broadly expressed in sensory afferent neurons. This channel is activated by multiple stimuli to mediate pain perception associated with inflammatory and neuropathic pain.

Article Synopsis
  • Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a debilitating neurodegenerative disease affecting the central nervous system, with primary progressive MS (PPMS) being the most severe form that leads to high clinical disability.
  • This study explored the relationship between advanced oxidation protein products (AOPPs) and symptoms of neuropathic pain and anxiety in a mouse model of progressive MS.
  • Results showed that increased AOPPs levels and oxidative stress markers correlated with heightened clinical scores, mechanical allodynia, and anxiety-like behaviors, suggesting a link between oxidative damage in the brain and these symptoms in MS.

Complex regional pain syndrome type I (CRPS-I) is a disabling pain condition without adequate treatment. Chronic post-ischemia pain injury (CPIP) is a model of CRPS-I that causes allodynia, spontaneous pain, inflammation, vascular injury, and oxidative stress formation. Antioxidants, such as alpha lipoic acid (ALA), have shown a therapeutic potential for CRPS-I pain control.

Reduced cardiac baroreflex sensitivity (cBRS) is an autonomic marker associated with a worse cardiovascular prognosis. Whether cBRS is lowered in people living with HIV (PLHIV) is yet unclear, as well as potential moderator effects of body mass index (BMI) or physical activity (PA) level. The present study aims to compare the spontaneous cBRS in PLHIV .
