Cancers utilize a simple glycan, Sialic Acid, to engage in metastatic processes via the Sialic acid (Sia) -Selectin pathway. Selectins recognize and bind to sialylated substrates, resulting in adhesion, migration, and extravasation, however, how deviations from the canonical form of Sia regulate binding to Selectin receptors (E, L, and P) on hemopoietic cells resulting in these metastatic processes, remained a gap in knowledge. De-O-acetylated Sias has been recently shown to be an integral substrate to the binding of sialic acid binding proteins.

This study explores the relationship between residence in dental health professional shortage areas (DHPSA) and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) among dental patients. Subjects were recruited from the patient population of the University of Minnesota's prosthodontic clinic.

Robust identification of perturbed cell types in single-cell RNA-seq data.

Single-cell transcriptomics has emerged as a powerful tool for understanding how different cells contribute to disease progression by identifying cell types that change across diseases or conditions. However, detecting changing cell types is challenging due to individual-to-individual and cohort-to-cohort variability and naive approaches based on current computational tools lead to false positive findings. To address this, we propose a computational tool, scDist, based on a mixed-effects model that provides a statistically rigorous and computationally efficient approach for detecting transcriptomic differences.

Background: The value of clinical pharmacists for ambulatory internal medicine clinics is well recognized, including their role in hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) reduction in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, there is a lack of data evaluating the clinical impact of remote, referral-based pharmacy programs.

Methods: This multicenter, cohort, retrospective chart review study analyzed the impact of pharmacist interventions on blood glucose control in patients aged 18 years and older who were diagnosed with T2DM with an HbA1c of 8.

Perceived Financial Vulnerability, Wealth, and Wealth Change: The Health and Retirement Study.

Objectives: The 6-item Perceived Financial Vulnerability (PFV) scale assesses awareness and psychological vulnerability regarding finances. Prior findings using the Health and Retirement Study (HRS) identified significant associations of PFV with wealth, demographics, and health status. This study examines the relationship between wealth, changes in wealth, and PFV.
