Background: The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of the rs738409 polymorphism in the patatin-like phospholipase domain containing 3 (PNPLA3) gene in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and its impact on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) risk and severity. We also evaluated other risk factors associated with NAFLD and advanced fibrosis. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study involving 163 patients with PCOS at a tertiary center.

- The study aimed to assess how effective aerobic exercise is at reducing liver fat and metabolic risks in postmenopausal women with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
- Forty sedentary postmenopausal women with NAFLD participated, with one group doing 120 minutes of supervised aerobic exercise per week for 24 weeks, while the other group remained sedentary.
- Results showed that the exercise group had reduced waist circumference, increased good cholesterol levels, and improved heart function, but there wasn't a significant decrease in liver fat or inflammation.
Hepatocellular carcinoma is a malignancy of global importance and is associated with a high rate of mortality. Recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of this disease make it imperative to update the recommendations on the management of the disease. In order to draw evidence-based recommendations concering the diagnosis and management of hepatocellular carcinoma, the Brazilian Society of Hepatology has sponsored a single-topic meeting in João Pessoa (PB).

The Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) system is the preferred staging system to evaluate patients with HCC and links prognosis assessment with treatment recommendation. The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate whether the BCLC staging system and its treatment algorithm are suitable for patients with HCC arising from NAFLD.
