"Double scale" is a poorly characterized skin defect of crocodilians that drastically reduces the economic value of crocodilian skin. This study investigated the morphology and pathogenesis of double scale in a ranching farm of American alligators (). We compared the histopathology of skin and selected organs (liver, lung, kidney, heart, spleen, intestine, and brain) of alligators with double scale against healthy control animals, together with serum and liver vitamin and mineral levels.

Patients with acute ischemic stroke may present with minor neurologic deficits. Acute treatment decisions depend on the disability imposed by the symptoms along with radiographic features. The presence of disabling neurologic deficits warrants intravenous thrombolysis, but the indications for endovascular therapy are less defined.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the use of the Rapid Arterial oCclusion Evaluation (RACE) score in prehospital settings to triage patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) in Lucas County, Ohio, focusing on its effectiveness in identifying large vessel occlusions (LVO).
  • Over a three-year period (July 2015 to June 2018), data was collected on 492 patients categorized as RACE-alerts (RA) and 1147 as stroke-alerts (SA), revealing that 37% of RA patients had AIS due to LVOs and 25.4% of RA patients underwent mechanical thrombectomy (MT).
  • The study found that the RACE score (≥5) had a

Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for ischemic stroke can be performed under local anesthesia (LA), conscious sedation (CS), or general anesthesia (GA). The need for monitoring by anesthesia providers may be resource intensive. We sought to determine differences in outcomes of MT when sedation is performed by an anesthesia team compared to sedation-trained providers.
