Medical therapy and outcomes in REVIVED-BCIS2 and STICHES: an individual patient data analysis.

Background And Aims: In the Surgical Treatment for Ischaemic Heart Failure Trial Extension Study (STICHES), coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) improved outcomes of patients with ischaemic left ventricular dysfunction receiving medical therapy, whereas in the Revascularization for Ischaemia Ventricular Dysfunction trial (REVIVED-BCIS2), percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) did not. The aim of this study was to explore differences in outcomes of participants treated with medical therapy alone in STICHES vs. REVIVED-BCIS2 and to assess the incremental benefit of CABG or PCI.

Electrocardiographic imaging metrics to predict the risk of arrhythmia in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy.

Background: The leading cause of death in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy is sudden cardiac death caused by ventricular arrhythmias. Accurate determination of arrhythmic risk in these patients is vital to allow clinicians to take appropriate preventive measures.

Objective: To review and summarize the literature on electrocardiographic imaging (ECGi) metrics that could be used to predict arrhythmic risk in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy.

Combined molecular and spin dynamics simulation of BCC iron with vacancy defects.

Utilizing an atomistic computational model, which handles both translational and spin degrees of freedom, combined molecular and spin dynamics simulations have been performed to investigate the effect of vacancy defects on spin wave excitations in ferromagnetic iron. Fourier transforms of space- and time-displaced correlation functions yield the dynamic structure factor, providing characteristic frequencies and lifetimes of the spin wave modes. A comparison of the system with a 5% vacancy concentration with pure lattice data shows a decrease in frequency and a decrease in lifetime for all transverse spin wave excitations observed.

Rotational Atherectomy to Treat in-Stent Recurrent Protruding Calcified Nodule.

A 73-year-old man presented with acute coronary syndrome secondary to stent failure. Intravascular imaging identified a recurrent protruding calcific nodule as the mechanism, which was effectively treated with low-speed rotablation, resulting in ablation of the nodule allowing the application of a drug-coated balloon.
