Microplastics pervade ocean ecosystems. Despite their effects on individuals or populations are well documented, the consequences of microplastics on ecosystem functioning are still largely unknown. Here, we show how microplastics alter the structure and functioning of pelagic microbial ecosystems.

Background: To reduce health inequities in paediatric patients with complex diseases, our hospital developed a food security programme in 2022. The programme aims to mitigate food insecurity (FI) in paediatric patients with oncological, transplantation and congenital cardiovascular diagnoses, by providing a monthly nutritious food supply that covers up to 50% of the patient's family food intake, accompanied by social and nutritional follow-up. In this study, we aimed to assess the effect of the programme on FI and nutritional status and describe its implementation.

Conservation, restoration and land management are increasingly implemented at landscape scales. However, because species interaction data are typically habitat- and/or guild-specific, exactly how those interactions connect habitats and affect the stability and function of communities at landscape scales remains poorly understood. We combine multi-guild species interaction data (plant-pollinator and three plant-herbivore-parasitoid communities, collected from landscapes with one, two or three habitats), a field experiment and a modelling approach to show that multi-habitat landscapes support higher species and interaction evenness, more complementary species interactions and more consistent robustness to species loss.

Objetive: Percutaneous occlusion of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) has classically been performed entirely by fluoroscopy, however in recent years, transthoracic echocardiography (TE) has been used as an aid to fluoroscopy or entirely by echocardiography, which avoids access of femoral artery, use of contrast and decrease in time and dose of radiation exposure. The objective of this study was to evaluate the success rate with the use of TE in percutaneous PDA closure.

Material And Method: Descriptive, comparative, retrospective study between patients in whom PDA closure was performed with fluoroscopy plus angiography (group 1) and fluoroscopy plus ET (group 2), between January 2018 and December 2022.
