Previous studies have demonstrated the dynamic changes in chromatin structure during retinal development correlate with changes in gene expression. However, those studies lack cellular resolution. Here, we integrate single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and single-cell assay for transposase-accessible chromatin sequencing (scATAC-seq) with bulk data to identify cell-type-specific changes in chromatin structure during human and murine development.

Background: Increasingly, there are calls for educational equity to explicitly include LGBTQ+ students, including the creation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer/questioning (LGBTQ+) clubs, or Genders and Sexualities Alliances (GSAs), which are associated with positive outcomes for LGBTQ+ students and promote a safer school climate for all students. However, less is known about strategies to initiate and sustain GSAs. Chicago Public Schools (CPS) serves as a case study of how to embrace LGBTQ+ equity through an evaluation of its current practices to support GSAs.

Premise: Common steps in phylogenomic matrix production include biological sequence concatenation, morphological data concatenation, insertion/deletion (indel) coding, gene content (presence/absence) coding, removing uninformative characters for parsimony analysis, recording with reduced amino acid alphabets, and occupancy filtering. Existing software does not accomplish these tasks on a phylogenomic scale using a single program.

Methods And Results: BAD2matrix is a Python script that performs the above-mentioned steps in phylogenomic matrix construction for DNA or amino acid sequences as well as morphological data.

Background: The extracellular matrix (ECM) provides structural and functional support for the myocardium, but myocardial infarction (MI) changes the composition of the ECM. One of the chief components of the ECM, hyaluronan (HA), accumulates after MI; however, specific biological actions of HA-particularly at the level of infiltrating immune cells and implications of such interactions on ventricular remodeling-have not been explored.

Goal: Because acute accumulation of HA coincides with macrophage infiltration after MI, we assessed the impact of HA on macrophage function.

Background: Trace elements, including zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu), although toxic at higher concentrations are known to play important roles in the maintenance of human health and neurodevelopment. Few epidemiological studies have investigated the association between prenatal or early postnatal Cu and Zn levels and child neurodevelopment. The aim of this research is to assess the association between child neurodevelopment at 18 months of age and cord blood and breast milk concentrations of Cu and Zn in Italian mother-child pairs enrolled in the Italian Northern Adriatic Cohort II (NAC-II), a part of the "Public health impact of long-term, low-level, mixed element exposure in susceptible population strata" project PHIME.
