The spatial spin modulated structure (SSMS) of the cycloid type present in bulk BiFeO prevents the linear magnetoelectric effect. One way to influence this structure is to reduce the crystal size to the nanoscale. Various opinions are circulating in the literature about the effect of nanocrystal size on SSMS, and to investigate this issue, we used a number of methods, with zero-field NMR (ZF NMR) spectroscopy at the forefront.

Glass containing chromium is a promising material for use in various modern fields of application (laser technology, optoelectronic devices, and luminescent resources). Chromium oxides are well-known nucleating agents that can cause crystallization. One of the most commonly observed crystalline phases in silicate glasses is cristobalite, which lowers their mechanical strength, leading to the destruction of the material.

Aerobic biological treatment of digested sludge was studied in a continuously operated laboratory set-up. An aerated reactor was filled with thermophilically digested sludge from the Moscow wastewater treatment plant and inoculated with special activated sludge. It was then operated at the chemostat mode at different flow rates.

A combined biologic and chemical treatment of high-strength (total chemical oxygen demand [CODtot] up to 20 g/L), strong nitrogenous (total N up to 1 g/L), and phosphoric (total P up to 0.4 g/L) starch industry wastewater was investigated at laboratory-scale level. As a principal step for COD elimination, upflow anaerobic sludge bed reactor performance was investigated at 30 degrees C.
