Effect of surgeons' annual operative volume on the risk of permanent Hypoparathyroidism, recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy and Haematoma following thyroidectomy: analysis of United Kingdom registry of endocrine and thyroid surgery (UKRETS).

Purpose: Categorize data to investigate the surgeon volume outcome relationship in thyroidectomies. Determine the evidence base for recommending a minimum number of thyroidectomies performed per year to maintain surgical competency.

Methods: Data on thyroid operations in the United Kingdom Registry of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgery (UKRETS) from 01/09/2010 to 31/08/2016 was analysed.

Bilateral femoral fractures in a 21-year-old man following a simple fall.

We present a case of a 21-year-old man with hip pain to the orthopaedic team. During the initial assessment he was found to be hypercalcaemic (adjusted calcium 3.55) due to the primary hyperparathoidism (PTH 1285), with all other screening for multiple endocrine neoplasia negative.

Duplicated inferior vena cava with associated ilio-femoral deep vein thrombosis.

We present the case of a fit and well 20-year-old gentleman who presented to our emergency department with unilateral lower limb pain and swelling. Subsequent imaging revealed a left ilio-femoral deep vein thrombosis, with associated duplication of his inferior vena cava. He was treated conservatively with a heparin infusion, warfarin and compression therapy prior to being discharged following a short inpatient stay.

Early experience with the Amplatzer Vascular Plug II for occlusive purposes in arteriovenous hemodialysis access.

The Amplatzer Vascular Plug Type II (AVP II) has proven effective in the therapeutic embolization of various vascular lesions. It benefits from very rapid occlusion of the target lesion and can be deployed, retrieved, and redeployed if required. There is no literature available on use of the AVP II in the maintenance, closure, and management of complicated arteriovenous access in hemodialysis patients.
