COVID-19 highlights the need to improve resilience and equity in managing small-scale fisheries.

The COVID-19 pandemic exposed the fragility of global and domestic seafood markets. We examined the main impacts and responses of the small-scale fisheries (SSF) sector, and found that mitigation and preparedness strategies should be prioritised to boost resilience in SSF. We provide five policy options and considerations: (1) improving access to insurance and financial services; (2) strengthening local and regional markets and supporting infrastructure; (3) recognising fisheries as an essential service; (4) integrating disaster risk management into fisheries management systems; and (5) investing in Indigenous and locally-led fisheries management.

To enable the photoelectrocatalytic treatment of large volumes of water containing low concentrations of pollutants, this study introduces a hybrid photocatalyst, composed of nanotubular oxides grown on TiW alloy ( = 0.5 and 5.0 wt %) modified with UiO-66 MOF, for degradation of estrone (E1) and 17α-ethinyl estradiol (EE2).

Main protease (Mpro), also known as 3-chymotrypsin-like protease (3CLpro), is a nonstructural protein (NSP5) of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) responsible for the cleavage of virus polyproteins during viral replication at 11 sites, which generates 12 functional proteins. Mpro is a cysteine protease that presents specificity for the amino acid residue glutamine (Gln) at the P1 position of the substrate. Due to its essential role in processing the viral polyprotein for viral particle formation (assembly), Mpro inhibition has become an important tool to control coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), since Mpro inhibitors act as antivirals.

A case of preoperative embolization for a giant hypervascular pancreatic serous cystic neoplasm in pancreaticoduodenectomy.

Background: Preoperative vascular embolization is an effective strategy for managing meningiomas, neck paragangliomas, renal cell carcinomas, and bone metastasis by reducing the intraoperative bleeding volume and operation time. Although hypervascular tumors also occur in the pancreas, preoperative embolization for these tumors is not commonly practiced. We herein present a case of a giant serous cystic neoplasm (SCN) of the pancreas with significant arterial vascularity that was managed with preoperative interventional radiology and subsequently resected via pancreaticoduodenectomy.

Changes in three-dimensional nasal morphology according to the direction of maxillary movement during Le Fort I osteotomy.

Background: Le Fort I (LFI) osteotomy is commonly performed by orthognathic surgeons; however, postoperative changes in nasolabial morphology are of concern. Several factors influence such changes, but it is difficult to accurately predict the postoperative results. This study evaluated the three-dimensional (3D) morphological changes in the nasal region according to the different directions of maxillary movement during LFI osteotomy.
