The aim of the study was the evaluation of dermal and oral toxicity of malathion based on the results of histopathologic and ultrastructural tests. The standard of the pesticide - IPO 460 Malathion was used in the study. The preparation was suspended in oil emulsion.

Two organic compounds of selenium, 4-o-totyl-selenosemicarbazide p-chlorobenzoic acid (chain compound) produced at the Chemistry Department of the University Medical School in Lublin, and one inorganic compound of sodium IV selenite (Na(2)SeO(3)) were used. The preparations were used per os in doses of 1 mg/kg body weight and 0.5 mg/kg body weight.

The effect of a synthetic pyrethroid - alpha-cypermethrin administered per os for 28 days to Swiss mice was examined on phagocytic and bactericidal activity of neutrophils, and leukocytic image, IL-12 p70 level in blood plasma, as well as histologic and ultrastructural picture of the liver, heart, kidneys, lung and spleen. A synthetic pyrethroid alpha-cypermethrin, [(R,S)-alpha-cyano-3-phenoxybenzyl (R,S)-cis,trans-3-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylate], produced by the Chemical Plant in Jaworzno was used in the study. The preparation for the application per os was used in doses 1/2 LD(50) (25 mg/kg body mass) and 1/5 LD(50) (10 mg/kg body mass).

Combined effects of moxonidine and ethanol on ultrastructure of selected Wistar-Kyoto rat organs (kidney, liver, heart) were investigated. In cells of the animals, which received moxonidine alone, no morphological changes were found. In the group of rats which received alcohol, several typical submicroscopical changes were found, especially related to the mitochondria.
