We present an experimental signature of the Anderson localisation of microcavity polaritons, and provide a systematic study of the dependence on disorder strength. We reveal a controllable degree of localisation, as characterised by the inverse-participation ratio, by tuning the positional disorder of arrays of interacting mesas. This constitutes the realisation of disorder-induced localisation in a driven-dissipative system.

We demonstrate the existence of a cross Feshbach resonance by strongly driving a lower polariton mode and by monitoring in time the transmission of a short optical pulse at the energy of the upper polariton mode in a semiconductor microcavity. From the signatures of the optical resonance, strength, and sign of the energy shift, we attribute the origin of the scattering process between polariton modes with opposite circular polarization to a biexciton bound state. From this study, we infer the conditions required for a strong enhancement of the generation of entangled photon pairs.

Multiple-breath inert gas washout (MBW) is ideally suited for early detection and monitoring of serious lung disease, such as cystic fibrosis, in infants and young children. Validated commercial options for the MBW technique are limited, and suitability of nitrogen (N)-based MBW is of concern given the detrimental effect of exposure to pure O on infant breathing pattern. We propose novel methodology using commercially available N MBW equipment to facilitate 4% sulfur hexafluoride (SF) multiple-breath inert gas wash-in and washout suitable for the infant age range.

A systematic and simple theoretical approach is proposed to analyze true degeneracies and polarized decay patterns of exciton complexes in semiconductor quantum dots. The results provide reliable spectral signatures for efficient symmetry characterization, and predict original features for low C(2v) and high C(3v) symmetries. Excellent agreement with single quantum dot spectroscopy of real pyramidal InGaAs/AlGaAs quantum dots grown along [111] is demonstrated.
