Harmful algal blooms (HABs) problem in Lake Erie has become critical recently-primarily triggered by phosphorus losses from cropland in the Maumee River watershed (major crops of corn/soybeans/wheat). Implementing agricultural best management practices (BMPs) is crucial to reduce excess nutrient loadings. Nutrient management is the management of nutrient applications for crop production that maximizes nutrient use efficiencies and minimizes nutrient losses.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThis article summarises the Joint British Diabetes Societies for Inpatient Care (JBDS-IP) Group guidelines on the use of technology to support diabetes care in hospital. The guideline incorporates two main areas: (i) use of wearable technology devices to improve diabetes management in hospital (including continuous glucose monitoring and insulin pump therapy) and (ii) information technology. Although it is reasonable to extrapolate from the evidence available, that devices developed to enhance diabetes care outside hospital will show similar benefits, there are challenges posed within the inpatient setting in hospital.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective observational audit of patients on ICI therapy at our centre between January 2013 and September 2023. We reviewed all patients on ICI therapy under the care of the oncology department at University Hospital Plymouth, a 1000-bedded hospital serving a population of 500,000 people.
Introduction: Dysfunction of the cortico-basal circuitry - including its primary input nucleus, the striatum - contributes to neuropsychiatric disorders, such as autism and Tourette Syndrome (TS). These conditions show marked sex differences, occurring more often in males than in females. Regulatory interneurons, such as cholinergic interneurons (CINs) and parvalbumin-expressing GABAergic fast spiking interneurons (FSIs), are implicated in human neuropsychiatric disorders such as TS, and ablation of these interneurons produces relevant behavioral pathology in male mice, but not in females.
