The aim of this study was to develop a small-scale model system resembling the micro- and meso-structure of butter, namely having a water droplet size distribution and water content close to that of commercially produced butter. Although it is possible to churn cream on a small scale, matching the microstructure of butter is a challenge. A 2-step churning process was introduced with the application of a kitchen mixer.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examines the use of antimicrobial prophylaxis (AMP) in haematological patients, particularly those at high risk for bacterial infections due to prolonged neutropenia after chemotherapy, amidst the rise of multi-drug resistant Gram-negative bacteria (MDR-GNB).
  • - A survey conducted with 120 haematology centers across 28 European countries revealed that most centers (86.7%) routinely screen for MDR-GNB, with a significant number (39.2%) using fluoroquinolones for prophylaxis.
  • - While bloodstream infections (BSI) rates were slightly lower in patients receiving AMP, the overall increase in MDR-GNB infections highlights the need for improved antimicrobial stewardship and tailored prophylactic strategies.

Introduction: Real-world data from multinational observational studies are required to better understand the role and performance of isavuconazole in real-world practice in Europe.

Methods: A retrospective medical record review was conducted at 16 sites in Europe (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom). Eligible records were from patients aged ≥ 18 years at the time of isavuconazole initiation and received at least one dose of isavuconazole for suspected or confirmed invasive aspergillosis (IA) or invasive mucormycosis (IM) during the eligibility period (October 15, 2015 to June 30, 2019).

Background: Bacteremia is a common complication in allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant recipients (alloHCTr), especially during the pre-engraftment period. International guidelines recommend antibacterial prophylaxis (ABP), despite potential selection for multidrug-resistant organisms (MDRO). Limited contemporary data exist on the epidemiology of pre-engraftment bacteremia in alloHCTr, who do not receive ABP.

Despite the significant progress made, CMV infection is one of the most frequent infectious complications in transplant recipients. CMV infections that become refractory or resistant (R/R) to the available antiviral drugs constitute a clinical challenge and are associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Novel anti-CMV therapies have been recently developed and introduced in clinical practice, which may improve the treatment of these infections.
