V.R. Khanolkar's initial years as pathologist and researcher in India: 1924-1941.

Vasant Ramji Khanolkar was the first Indian pathologist and a pioneering researcher who was at the forefront of the diverse fields of cancer research, blood group genetics, epidemiology and leprosy research, etc. in the mid-twentieth century. All his cutting-edge research took place after he joined Tata Memorial Hospital, Bombay (now Mumbai), as Director of Laboratories.

Hemangiomatosis of the spleen in a patient with Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome: A case report.

Hemangiomatosis of the spleen is a benign vascular condition occurring as a manifestation of systemic angiomatosis. It is usually associated with Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome (KTS), which is a rare congenital malformation characterized by a triad of varicose veins, bony and soft tissue hypertrophy, and cutaneous and visceral hemangiomas and/or venous malformations. The association of splenic hemangiomatosis with KTS is less documented in the literature.

Infarction of breast and infarction of phyllodes tumor during pregnancy - A case report and review of literature.

The breast can be affected by a variety of specific and unique disorders during pregnancy and lactation. One of these disorders is spontaneous infarction of the breast which is a rare condition seen in physiologically hyperplastic mammary tissue associated with pregnancy and lactation. The causes and mechanism of the development of breast infarct remain largely unknown.

Acute appendicitis the first sign of appendiceal metastasis of an inoperable carcinoma of stomach-A case report and a review of literature.

Appendicitis is the most common cause of the acute abdomen and usually occurs because of the fecalith in adults and lymphoid hyperplasia in childhood. Gastric cancer metastasis to the appendix is a rare condition that might be present with symptoms of acute appendicitis. The English literature describes only thirteen cases of gastric carcinoma metastasizing to the appendix and presenting as acute appendicitis.

The spectrum of pathologic lesions in spleen in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome: Autopsy report of 257 patients.

Background: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection continues to persist in India over the past three decades. The involvement of the spleen in these patients has a wide array of differentials with opportunistic infections and malignancies. The spectrum of splenic lesions in patients with HIV/AIDS has not been described in the Indian literature.
