Introduction: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) of the body/tail is notably different than PDAC in the head of the pancreas. Surgery plus chemotherapy is known to improve outcomes for all PDAC. The sequence of this therapy is well studied in head cancers yet has never been evaluated systematically in relation to distal pancreatectomy (DP).

Article Synopsis
  • The study assesses the risk associated with sub-centimeter Side-Branch Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasms (SB-IPMN) to inform a surveillance strategy.
  • Sub-centimeter SB-IPMNs show a lower rate of clinically relevant progression compared to larger cysts, although they can still develop high-risk pathologies over time.
  • The findings suggest that size growth alone is not a reliable indicator of malignant potential, emphasizing the need for careful monitoring regardless of cyst size.

Article Synopsis
  • Cancer significantly impacts disabled individuals, who have lower participation rates in population-based screening programs that can aid in early cancer detection.
  • A study used qualitative evidence synthesis to analyze 32 publications and identified key factors affecting access to screening, including perceptions, support systems, financial costs, literacy levels, and physical accessibility.
  • To improve access, screening services must recognize and address the unique needs of disabled people by implementing reasonable accommodations tailored to their requirements.

Migratory species typically undertake demanding long-distance journeys, across different habitat types during which they are exposed to multiple natural and anthropogenic stressors. Mortality during migration is typically high and may be human induced. Understanding individual responses to these selection pressures is rarely attempted because of the challenges of relating individual phenotypic and genetic data to migration success.
