Distraction-based interventions for children in the emergency care setting: A realist synthesis based on primary research.

Background: The literature underscores the prevalence of pain as the most common presenting symptom in the Emergency Care Setting (ECS) and is associated with anxiety and stress for children. On top of that painful procedures are often required as part of their treatment, making procedural pain a common experience. The substantial evidence supporting the effectiveness of distraction-based interventions (DBI) in relieving pain and anxiety and reducing stress underscores the urgency of addressing this issue.

Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with quadriceps tendon autograft is a reliable graft option that has recently increased in use. Varying harvesting and graft preparation techniques available and improved technology and implant design continue to make quadricep tendon preparation more efficient and reproducible. In this Technical Note, we describe our preferred technique for all-soft tissue quadriceps tendon autograft preparation after harvest for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.

Although there are a variety of techniques available for performing quadriceps tendon autograft harvest for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, a minimally invasive, all-soft tissue harvest technique can result in a reproducible, reliable graft while minimizing donor-site morbidity. In this Technical Note, we describe our preferred technique for quadriceps tendon autograft harvest for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.

Ultrasound as a predictor of time-loss injury for the patellar tendon, Achilles tendon and plantar fascia in division I collegiate athletes.

Objectives: Tendinopathy and fasciopathy are common conditions that can result in time-loss injury in athletes. This study aimed to determine if preseason sonographic abnormalities of the patellar tendon, Achilles tendon and plantar fascia are associated with future time-loss injuries in collegiate athletes.

Methods: National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I athletes from three institutions participated in this 3-year prospective, observational study.
