Isolated skeletal metastasis to the patella.

Metastases to the patella are rarely described in the literature. A 51-year-old man with stage IIIB adenocarcinoma presented to our clinic. One year after radiation and chemotherapy treatment, it was found that he had a metastasis in the right patella.

Mechanical failures occurred in three Bateman bipolar hemiarthroplasties in two patients. In all three occurrences, the disassembly of the bipolar prosthesis was caused by fracture of the polyethylene liner of the bipolar acetabular component. This caused the 22-mm head of the femoral component to separate and unlock from the acetabular component.

Metastatic tumors to the foot are a rare phenomenon which are often initially misdiagnosed. This article reports two cases of head and neck carcinoma metastases to the foot which were initially diagnosed as infection. These tumors have not been reported previously as metastasizing to the feet.

In a 15-month period, 26 patients with 31 anterior dislocations of the shoulder were seen. A modified Kocher maneuver was first attempted without the use of analgesics or muscle relaxants. This was successful 19 of 31 times (61%).
