Landau-Zener tunneling, which describes the transition in a two-level system during a sweep through an anti-crossing, is a model applicable to a wide range of physical phenomena. Realistic quantum systems are affected by dissipation due to coupling to their environments. An important aspect of understanding such open quantum systems is the relative energy scales of the system itself and the system-environment coupling, which distinguishes the weak- and strong-coupling regimes.

Article Synopsis
  • Celiac disease (CeD) is an autoimmune disorder triggered by gluten, affecting about 1 in 133 people worldwide, and is often undiagnosed due to its diverse symptoms.
  • The paper reviews the literature on the eye-related issues (ophthalmic manifestations) associated with CeD and offers initial guidelines for patients considering elective corneal refractive surgery (CRS).
  • Findings indicate that CeD can lead to unique eye problems, such as low endothelial cell density and dryness from vitamin A deficiency, which can complicate the evaluation and outcomes of CRS, emphasizing the need for personalized assessments for affected patients.

Background: Left atrial appendage (LAA) occlusion has been established as an alternative to systemic anticoagulation for stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation; however, limitations of current devices have slowed adoption. We present preclinical evaluations of a novel device, the Conformal Left Atrial Appendage Seal (CLAAS).

Methods: An in vitro assessment of conformability was conducted to evaluate the two CLAAS devices (regular 27 mm and large 35 mm) and a Watchman 2.

The EndoBarrier Delivery System is a unique product capable of reliably delivering an implant into the small intestine. Further improvements to the product can likely be made to facilitate tracking and improved navigation through the small bowel. This unique system and its related technology may have additional applications where access to the small bowel is desired such as drug delivery, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and small bowel stent delivery.
