A practical model of faculty development in medical education: make it accessible, versatile, and easy to use!

Faculty development programs should offer transformative resources and prioritize the needs of the faculty. If faculty face difficulty in accessing such programs, the potential impact of the resources may be limited. To alleviate such issues, we designed a faculty development program that is available to anyone at any time in any configuration.

Variations in LOS and its main determinants overtime at an academic spinal care center from 2006-2019.

Objectives: Efforts to safely reduce hospital LOS while maintaining quality outcomes and patient satisfaction are paramount. The primary goal of this study was to assess trends in LOS at a high-volume quaternary care spine center. Secondary goals were to assess trends in factors most associated with prolonged LOS.

K+ transport characteristics of the plasma membrane tandem-pore channel TPK4 and pore chimeras with its vacuolar homologs.

Vacuolar tandem-pore channels could not be analysed in Xenopus oocytes so far, due to misguided translocation. Owing to the conservation of their pore regions, we were able to prepare functional pore-chimeras between the plasma membrane localised TPK4 and vacuolar TPKs. Thereby, we found evidence that TPK2, TPK3 and TPK5, just like TPK4, form potassium-selective channels with instantaneous current kinetics.

Expression of Zif268 in the granule cell layer of the adult mouse olfactory bulb is modulated by experience.

Behavioral and physiological evidence indicates that odor processing in the main olfactory bulb is influenced by olfactory experience. At the cellular level, changes in inhibitory influence exerted by granular interneurons may contribute to restructuring odor representations. To assess experience-dependent modulation in the responsiveness of granule cells, we measured the level and spatial distribution of odor-induced expression of the immediate-early gene Zif268 in the granule cell layer of adult mice submitted or not to olfactory discrimination conditioning.
