Computed microtomography evaluation of calcium hydroxide-based root canal dressing removal from oval root canals by different methods of irrigation.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the capacity of conventional irrigation, passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI), and Easy Clean for removing calcium hydroxide-based root canal dressing from oval root canals. Thirty mandibular uniradicular incisors with oval canals were used, and subjected to chemical-mechanical preparation with Reciproc R40 instruments. The main canal was filled with a paste based on Ca(OH) P.

The aplication of cyanoacrilate surgical glue on skin suture in rats.

Purpose:: To compare the use of a new cyanoacrylate-based surgical glue and suture with sepa-rate points in skin wounds closure.

Methods:: Thirty-six rats were subjected to a 4cm dorsal longitudinal incision. Twelve were sub-jected to simple suture with polyamide 6-0, 12 rats underwent wall synthesis using Dermabond(r) and 12 was performed cutaneous synthesis with N-2-Butyl-Cyanoacrylate.

Evaluation of low intensity laser therapy in myofascial pain syndrome.

Limited studies have demonstrated that low intensity laser therapy (LILT) may have a therapeutic effect on the treatment of myofascial pain syndrome (MPS). Sixty (60) patients with MPS and having one active trigger point in the anterior masseter and anterior temporal muscles were selected and assigned randomly to six groups (n=10): Groups I to Ill were treated with GaAIAS (780 nm) laser, applied in continuous mode and in a meticulous way, twice a week, for four weeks. Energy was set to 25 J/cm2, 60 J/cm2 and 105 J/cm2, respectively.

Effect of different bleaching systems on the ultrastructure of bovine dentin.

The aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro the effect of different in-office bleaching systems on the surface morphology of bovine dentin. Thirty tooth fragments measuring 4 x 4mm, containing enamel and dentin, were obtained from the crowns of extracted bovine incisors. Samples were subjected to simulated intracoronal bleaching techniques using conventional (Opalescence Endo and Whiteness Super Endo) and light-activated systems (Opalescence Xtra) and Whiteness HP Maxx).

Evaluation of the temperature of different refrigerant sprays used as a pulpal test.

The temperature of different refrigerant sprays (Endo-Ice, Endo-Frost, Coolermatic and Sprayon Contact and Tuner Cleaner) used as pulpal tests were evaluated in vitro. A thermocouple placed inside the pulp chamber of a maxillary central incisor was used to register the temperature changes when the refrigerant sprays were applied with a cotton swab, for 10 s. Results indicate that Endo-Ice and Endo-Frost presented the lowest temperatures among the refrigerant sprays tested.
