RNA's Dynamic Conformational Selection and Entropic Allosteric Mechanism in Controlling Cascade Protein Binding Events.

In the TAR RNA of immunodeficiency viruses, an allosteric communication exists between a distant loop and a bulge. The bulge interacts with the TAT protein vital for transactivating viral RNA, while the loop interacts with cyclin-T1, contingent on TAT binding. Through extensive atomistic and free energy simulations, we investigate TAR-TAT binding in nonpathogenic bovine immunodeficiency virus (BIV) and pathogenic human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

Ectopic colloid goiter in mediastinum with normal thyroid gland.

Ectopic thyroid tissue is a rare developmental abnormality involving aberrant embryogenesis of the thyroid gland during passage from the primitive foregut to the pretracheal position. The most frequent position is the base of the tongue (lingual thyroid); however, it has been described in other sites, such as the submandibular region, trachea, mediastinum, and subdiaphragmatic regions.Here, we report a case of an adenomatous goiter that developed in mediastinal thyroid tissue without any connection to the pretracheal thyroid gland.

An Unusual Case of Biliary Stent Migration in Sacrum.

The common bile duct stenting has been a common endoscopic procedure practiced worldwide for the treatment of benign or malignant bile duct obstruction. Although the procedure has shown a very low morbidity, it is not free from complications. Stent migration has been a common late complication seen in 10% of cases presenting with various manifestations depending on the site of impaction.

Design of Interactive Cancer Education Technology for Latina Farmworkers.

Latinas in the United States experience higher levels of cervical cancer (CC) incidence and mortality rates than the general population, and many lack access to healthcare or face communication, literacy, and knowledge barriers preventing proper CC screening. Interactive technological interventions, like embodied conversational agents (ECA)/virtual agents, are currently used in other populations, settings, and for other health topics, however, no known initiative has used culturally- and literacy-appropriate technological interventions to deliver Spanish-language CC education. This study aims to create a culturally tailored Spanish-language Virtual Patient Educator (VPE) application to augment a patient navigator (PN) intervention for increasing CC screening rates among Hispanic women in a rural agricultural community.

Assistive/rehabilitation technology, disability, and service delivery models.

The United Nation's Millennium Development Goals do not explicitly articulate a focus on disability; similar failures in the past resulted in research, policy, and practice that are not generalizable and did not meet the needs of persons with disabilities since they were developed for an "average" population. Academics and professionals in health and other disciplines should have a knowledge base in evidence-based practices that improve well-being and participation of people with disabilities through effective service delivery of assistive technology. Grounded by a theoretical framework that incorporates a multivariate perspective of disability that is acknowledged in the convention on the rights of persons with disabilities and the World Health Organization's International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, we present a review of models of assistive technology service delivery and call for future syntheses of the fragmented evidence base that would permit a comparative effectiveness approach to evaluation.
