The link between DNA methylation and neurodevelopmental disorders is well established. However, how DNA methylation is fine-tuned-ensuring precise gene expression and developmental fidelity-remains poorly understood. PROSER1, a known TET2 interactor, was recently linked to a severe neurodevelopmental disorder.

Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) including linear and branched isomers is one of only three PFAS included in the Stockholm convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants. Unfortunately, PFOA branched isomers have received less attention than the linear due to analytical difficulties and perceived lower environmental concentrations. In this study, we revealed a environmentally relevant pathway for the formation of branched PFOA from PFAS precursors.

The PIWI-interacting RNA (piRNA) pathway guides the DNA methylation of young, active transposons during germline development in male mice. piRNAs tether the PIWI protein MIWI2 (PIWIL4) to the nascent transposon transcript, resulting in DNA methylation through SPOCD1 (refs. ).

Biofilters are among the most popular nature-based systems for treating stormwater and delivering multiple environmental benefits. However, as a passive system, their performance tends to be inconsistent in removing emerging organic contaminants produced by anthropogenic activities that can be persistent, mobile, and toxic. Thus, in this study, real time control (RTC) of stormwater biofilters is introduced to enhance the removal of a diverse range of organic chemicals.

Some visual neurons in the dragonfly () optic lobe respond to small, moving targets, likely underlying their fast pursuit of prey and conspecifics. In response to repetitive targets presented at short intervals, the spiking activity of these "small target motion detector" (STMD) neurons diminishes over time. Previous experiments limited this adaptation by including intertrial rest periods of varying durations.
