The establishment of Tasmanian Palawa/Pakana communities ~40 thousand years ago (ka) was achieved by the earliest and farthest human migrations from Africa and necessitated migration into high-latitude Southern Hemisphere environments. The scarcity of high-resolution paleoecological records during this period, however, limits our understanding of the environmental effects of this pivotal event, particularly the importance of using fire as a tool for habitat modification. We use two paleoecological records from the Bass Strait islands to identify the initiation of anthropogenic landscape transformation associated with ancestral Palawa/Pakana land use.

Future augmented reality (AR) glasses empower users to view personal applications and services anytime and anywhere without being restricted by physical locations and the availability of physical screens. In typical everyday activities, people move around to carry out different tasks and need a variety of information on the go. Existing interfaces in AR do not support these use cases well, especially when the number of applications increases.

Toxocara canis and Toxocara cati are parasitic nematodes in the order Ascaridida, which inhabit the small intestines of dogs and cats, respectively, as adults. Although often nonpathogenic as adults, nematodes within this genus are capable of causing widespread disease throughout the host while in a larval stage, during which time larvae migrate throughout the body in a process termed larva migrans. Larvae are also capable of surviving within host tissues in an encysted arrested stage, without immune clearance by the host.

Handheld devices have become an inclusive alternative to head-mounted displays in virtual reality (VR) environments, enhancing accessibility and allowing cross-device collaboration. Object manipulation techniques in 3D space with handheld devices, such as those in handheld augmented reality (AR), have been typically evaluated in table-top scale and we currently lack an understanding of how these techniques perform in larger scale environments. We conducted two studies, each with 30 participants, to investigate how different techniques impact usability and performance for room-scale handheld VR object translations.
