CT pulmonary angiography during veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in an adult.

Veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA ECMO) causes changes in the filling and blood flow of the cardiac chambers and pulmonary vessels as well as alterations in the path of intravenous contrast injected during CT. We present a patient with a potentially misleading CT pulmonary angiogram while on full VA ECMO. We demonstrate circulatory changes as well as alterations in contrast flow when ECMO flows are reduced.

Vertebral bone mineral measures and psychological wellbeing among individuals with modic changes.

Purpose: This case-control pilot study examined whether vertebral bone mineral measures were associated with the presence of chronic low back pain (CLBP) and Modic changes (MCs), and to compare psychological wellbeing and inflammation among individuals with CLBP and MCs, compared to individuals with no history of low back pain and without MCs.

Methods: Eleven individuals with MRI-defined MCs in the lumbar spine and CLBP (cases) and 10 individuals with no history of CLBP or MCs (controls) responded to standard questionnaires regarding pain characteristics and psychological health. Radiofrequency ablation of a spinal osteoid osteoma: low heat-load technique.

The present report describes successful radiofrequency ablation of a small osteoid osteoma in the second lumbar (L2) pedicle of a 10-year-old boy who had been experiencing several months of back pain. The lesion had no cortical bone separation from the spinal canal contents and was positioned immediately adjacent to a synovial facet joint. Treatment involved a low heat-load technique to avoid damage to nearby sensitive structures.

Case report: granular cell tumour of the biliary tree--the sonographic appearance.

A case of granular cell tumour (GCT) of the biliary tree is reported with the first published sonographic images of this tumour. The difficulty in distinguishing this tumour from cholelithiasis is illustrated.

Case report: transient thymic calcification--association with rebound enlargement.

Thymic calcification is usually associated with a thymic neoplasm. A case is reported in which transient calcification preceded rebound thymic enlargement related to chemotherapy, in an otherwise normal thymus.
