During major flood events, waterborne contaminants are relatively poorly characterized. This is due to logistical difficulties associated with obtaining water samples in potentially dangerous flood conditions. Therefore, alterations in gastrointestinal anatomy during bariatric surgery can change SGLT and GLUT receptor activity.
