Real-time virtual infection prevention and control assessments in skilled nursing homes, New York, March 2020-A pilot project.

Objective: To describe a pilot project infection prevention and control (IPC) assessment conducted in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) in New York State (NYS) during a pivotal 2-week period when the region became the nation's epicenter for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Design: A telephone and video assessment of IPC measures in SNFs at high risk or experiencing COVID-19 activity.

Participants: SNFs in 14 New York counties, including New York City.

Pteropus lylei (Lyle's flying fox), an Old World fruit bat, consumes only ripe fruit, which contains low protein and sodium. The carpophagous diet of P. lylei presents an adaptive challenge for salivary glands to conserve sufficient nutrition for living.

Diverse expression profiles of glutathione-S-transferase subunits in mammalian urinary bladders.

The hGSTM1 null genotype has been associated with increased susceptibility to urinary bladder cancer. However, the extent to which the GSTM1 subunit actually contributes to GST activities in mammalian urinary bladders is not clear. For adult mice, urinary bladders exhibited GST activity which was among the highest observed in the tissues tested.

Binding of cationic cell-permeable peptides to plastic and glass.

Cell-penetrating peptides derived from hydrophilic regions of the homeoprotein Antennapedia (Antp) or the transcription-regulating factor Tat have been used to transport several peptide and oligonucleotide cargoes into the interior of cells. Such vector peptides penetrate cells, in part, because they contain multiple lysine and arginine residues. Using radiolabeled peptide cargoes covalently linked to Antp- or Tat-related vectors, or to D-Arg heptamers, we found that a significant amount of the label remained tightly bound to plastic and glass surfaces.
