Mechanobiology and Primary Cilium in the Pathophysiology of Bone Marrow Myeloproliferative Diseases.

Philadelphia-Negative Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) are a diverse group of blood cancers leading to excessive production of mature blood cells. These chronic diseases, including polycythemia vera (PV), essential thrombocythemia (ET), and primary myelofibrosis (PMF), can significantly impact patient quality of life and are still incurable in the vast majority of the cases. This review examines the mechanobiology within a bone marrow niche, emphasizing the role of mechanical cues and the primary cilium in the pathophysiology of MPNs.

Analysing the intra and interregional components of spatial accessibility gravity model to capture the level of equity in the distribution of hospital services in Italy: do they influence patient mobility?

Background: An equal distribution of hospital structures represents an important factor to achieve Universal Health Coverage. Generally, the most diffused approach to measure the potential availability to healthcare is the provider-to-population ratio based on the number of beds or professionals. However, this approach considers only the availability of resources provided at regional or local level ignoring the spatial accessibility of interregional facilities that are particularly accessed by patients living at the borders.

Determinants of frontline tyrosine kinase inhibitor choice for patients with chronic-phase chronic myeloid leukemia: A study from the Registro Italiano LMC and Campus CML.

Background: Imatinib, dasatinib, and nilotinib are tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) approved in Italy for frontline treatment of chronic-phase chronic myeloid leukemia (CP-CML). The choice of TKI is based on a combined evaluation of the patient's and the disease characteristics. The aim of this study was to analyze the use of frontline TKI therapy in an unselected cohort of Italian patients with CP-CML to correlate the choice with the patient's features.

The challenge of clinical reasoning in chronic multimorbidity: time and interactions in the Health Issues Network model.

The increasing prevalence of multimorbidity requires new theoretical models and educational approaches to develop physicians' ability to manage multimorbidity patients. The Health Issues Network (HIN) is an educational approach based on a graphical depiction of the evolutions over time of the concurrent health issues of a patient and of their interactions. From a theoretical point of view, the HIN approach is rooted in Prigogine's vision of the "becoming" of the events and in the concept of knowledge organization, intended as the process of storing and structuring of information in a learner's mind.
