The effect of curricular reform on gross anatomy laboratory examination performance: An institutional analysis.

Many medical schools have undergone curricular reform recently. With these reforms, time spent teaching anatomy has been reduced, and there has been a general shift to a pass/fail grading system. At Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM), a new curriculum was implemented in fall 2016.

Spinal hamartoma with severe kyphoscoliosis--a rare case of spinal mass in a fetus.

Spinal hamartomas are rare lesions consisting of disorganized ecto- and mesodermal tissues of the spinal region. While postnatal identification of spinal hamartomas has been reported, a literature search did not reveal any published reports of prenatal identification of spinal hamartomas. Here we report a 46,XX fetus who presented at 20 weeks' gestation with a lower thoracic and lumbar kyphoscoliosis, suspected spina bifida, and amniotic fluid alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) levels within the normal range.

Dietary administration of an extract from rosemary leaves enhances the liver microsomal metabolism of endogenous estrogens and decreases their uterotropic action in CD-1 mice.

We evaluated the effects of a methanol extract from the leaves of the plant Rosmarinus officinalis L. (rosemary) on the metabolism and action of estradiol and estrone. Treatment of female CD-1 mice with 2% rosemary in AIN-76A diet for 3 weeks increased the liver microsomal 2-hydroxylation of estradiol and estrone by approximately 150%, increased their 6-hydroxylation by approximately 30% and inhibited the 16alpha-hydroxylation of estradiol by approximately 50%.
