Article Synopsis
  • In the UK, two surgical approaches for repairing open abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs), transperitoneal (TP) and retroperitoneal (RP), were compared in patients with complex vascular issues.
  • The study involved 57 patients, assessing outcomes like postoperative complications, hospital stay length, and systemic inflammation, with RP patients showing better results in these areas.
  • Findings suggest that the RP approach, despite being more demanding, offers clinical advantages and cost savings, advocating for its more frequent use in complex AAA cases.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze the incidence of surgical site infections (SSI) following arterial interventions through non-infected groin incisions and identify related risk factors.
  • A total of 117 studies involving over 65,000 groin incisions were reviewed, showing an overall SSI rate of 8.1%, with superficial infections (6.3%) being more common than deep infections (1.9%).
  • Factors such as aneurysmal pathology and the study design influenced SSI rates, while the higher rate of superficial infections in randomized trials suggests more thorough patient evaluations in those studies, which could guide future practices and research.

Objective: Controlling pain after major lower limb amputation (MLLA) is of critical importance to patients and clinicians. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to assess the effect of perineural catheters (PNCs) on post-operative pain, post-operative morphine requirement, in-hospital mortality, long term phantom limb pain, and chronic stump pain.

Methods: A systematic review using PubMed, EMBASE via OVID and the Cochrane library from database inception (1946) to 20 October 2020 was performed according to PRISMA guidelines.

Objectives: Antiplatelet therapy following peripheral arterial endovascular intervention lacks high quality evidence to guide practice. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of three months of dual antiplatelet therapy on amputation-free survival following peripheral arterial endovascular intervention in patients with chronic limb threatening ischemia.

Methods: A retrospective review of symptomatic patients undergoing primary peripheral arterial endovascular intervention over a seven-year period was performed.

Neonicotinoids are subjected to vigilance because of environmental contaminations and deleterious effects on bees. Imidacloprid (IMI) is one of the most representative insecticides of this family. At chronic exposure, concentration-effect relationships are non linear.
