Real-world clinical characteristics and therapeutic strategies in patients with moderate-to-severe inflammatory bowel disease in Argentina: Data from the RISE-AR study.

Objective: Real-world evidence on the adoption of different pharmacological strategies in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in Latin America is scarce. Herein, we describe real-world sociodemographic, clinical characteristics, and different therapeutic approaches used in patients with IBD in Argentina.

Methods: RISE AR (NCT03488030) was a multicenter, non-interventional study with a cross-sectional evaluation and a 3-year retrospective chart review conducted in Argentina.

Myocardial Involvement in Catastrophic Antiphospholipid Syndrome during Pregnancy or Puerperium: A Case of a Young Breastfeeding Woman and Literature Review.

Catastrophic Antiphospholipid Syndrome (CAPS) is a rare complication that can occur in patients with Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS). CAPS occurs even more rarely during pregnancy/puerperium and pregnant patients, even less likely to show cardiac involvement without signs of damage on ultrasound and angiography with non-obstructive coronary arteries. We present a case of a 26-year-old breastfeeding woman, the youngest described with CAPS and acute myocardial infarction, whose diagnosis was made with cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI).

The development of formulations adapted to the patient's age is a challenge in the pharmaceutical industry. Pediatric and geriatric patients may have difficulties in swallowing oral medications when an adequate formulation is not available. Carvedilol is a poorly water-soluble drug used to treat cardiovascular problems; it is commercialized in several countries only as solid oral formulations, which are often manipulated at the point of administration to treat pediatric or geriatric patients.

Miconazole Nitrate Microparticles in Lidocaine Loaded Films as a Treatment for Oropharyngeal Candidiasis.

Oral candidiasis is an opportunistic infection that affects mainly individuals with weakened immune system. Devices used in the oral area to treat this condition include buccal films, which present advantages over both oral tablets and gels. Since candidiasis causes pain, burning, and itching, the purpose of this work was to develop buccal films loaded with both lidocaine (anesthetic) and miconazole nitrate (MN, antifungal) to treat this pathology topically.
