High-energy nuclear collisions create a quark-gluon plasma, whose initial condition and subsequent expansion vary from event to event, impacting the distribution of the eventwise average transverse momentum [P([p_{T}])]. Disentangling the contributions from fluctuations in the nuclear overlap size (geometrical component) and other sources at a fixed size (intrinsic component) remains a challenge. This problem is addressed by measuring the mean, variance, and skewness of P([p_{T}]) in ^{208}Pb+^{208}Pb and ^{129}Xe+^{129}Xe collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers are tackling the challenge of creating functional materials that direct heat flow in specific ways to improve thermal management.
  • They used a technique called spatiotemporally resolved thermoreflectance to study how heat moves in supercrystals made from anisotropic gold (Au) nanocrystals, finding that heat flows more easily along the long axis of these nanocrystals.
  • By adjusting the shape of the nanocrystals, they demonstrated increased control over heat directionality, and they used simulations to understand this behavior, offering insights for future applications in thermal management technologies.

Anxiety and depression are common in many cancers but have not been systematically studied in patients with histiocytic neoplasms (HN). We sought to estimate rates of anxiety and depression and identify clinical features and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) associated with anxiety and depression in patients with HN. A registry-based cohort of patients with HN completing PROs including the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) from 2018-2023 was identified.

Background: In Canada, as many as 24% of mothers are deferred from cord blood (CB) donation due to risk factors for Zika virus (ZIKV). However, the ZIKV epidemic has waned considerably since 2016, and there has not been any report of ZIKV transmission by CB transplantation, which questions this policy. Thus, we performed an analysis of the risk of introducing ZIKV in the CB supply maintained by Héma-Québec (HQ) and Canadian Blood Services (CBS).

A search for the exclusive hadronic decays W^{±}→π^{±}γ, W^{±}→K^{±}γ, and W^{±}→ρ^{±}γ is performed using up to 140  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collisions recorded with the ATLAS detector at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=13  TeV. If observed, these rare processes would provide a unique test bench for the quantum chromodynamics factorization formalism used to calculate cross sections at colliders. Additionally, at future colliders, these decays could offer a new way to measure the W boson mass through fully reconstructed decay products.
