The structure of Pseudomonas solanacearum lipopolysaccharide is similar to those described for the LPS of enterobacteria. The lipid A contains fatty acids and glucosamine (5 fatty acids for 2 glucosamine residues). The polysaccharide part contains 2-keto-3-deoxy-octulosonate, L-glycero-D-mannoheptose, hexoses (glucose, rhamnose, glucosamine) and a pentose (xylose).

We have treated 77 tibial fractures according to Sarmiento's principles. This technic was applied two weeks after the initial time of the fracture, and allowed a total weight bearing with complete joint mobility. It needed a functional below-the-knee brace which ends on the knee like a PTB prosthesis.

The authors describe a technique of Kuntscher intramedullary nailing combined with screws driven through the bone and the nail above and below the fracture site. This technique gives better stability of the fracture and allows extension of intramedullary nailing to severely comminuted fractures, fractures with loss of bone and to proximal or distal fractures. Risks of rotational instability or shortening are diminished.
