The purpose of this study was to develop a survey tool to capture inappropriate, disrespectful, and coercive (IDC) interactions with healthcare providers among a diverse sample of university students. Participants were university students at one large Midwestern public university. An exploratory qualitative approach was used to create a survey tool to capture IDC interactions.

Estimation of HIV prevalence and burden in Nigeria: a Bayesian predictive modelling study.

Background: The cost of population-based surveys is high and obtaining funding for a national population-based survey may take several years, with follow-up surveys taking up to five years. Survey-based prevalence estimates are prone to bias owing to survey non-participation, as not all individuals eligible to participate in a survey may be reached, and some of those who are contacted do not consent to HIV testing. This study describes how Bayesian statistical modeling may be used to estimate HIV prevalence at the state level in a reliable and timely manner.

Loss of chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan sulfation allows delayed sympathetic reinnervation after cardiac ischemia-reperfusion.

Sympathetic nerve loss in the heart predicts the risk of ventricular arrhythmias after myocardial infarction (MI) in patients. Sympathetic denervation after cardiac ischemia-reperfusion is sustained by matrix components chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans (CSPGs) in the cardiac scar. We showed that 4,6-sulfation of CSPGs was critical for preventing nerve growth into the scar.

Surgical Resection of Bilateral Polycystic Ovaries Causing Ureteral Obstruction.

Ovarian cysts in adolescents are typically managed conservatively given the low rate of malignancy and the cysts typically regress over time. We present a case of a 14 year-old female with large bilateral adnexal cysts causing ureteral obstruction which was successfully treated with surgical resection and ensuring maximum preservation of ovarian tissue.
