A New Radiographic Classification for Distal Shaft Fifth Metatarsal Fractures.

In the present report, a new radiographic classification for distal shaft fractures of the fifth metatarsal is presented. The classification system is based on a review of 79 spiral oblique fractures of the distal shaft of the fifth metatarsal. The sample was grouped into "grades" of deformity according to the configuration of the fracture and the amount of displacement observed for each injury.

Accelerated graft dysfunction in heart transplant patients with persistent atrioventricular conduction block.

Impact of Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators on Survival of Patients with Centrifugal Left Ventricular Assist Devices.

Background: Both implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) and left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) have a positive impact on survival in the heart failure population. We sought to determine whether these positive effects on survival are additive or whether LVAD therapy supersedes ICD therapy.

Method: We analyzed survival data of patients implanted with nonpulsatile LVADs between October 2004 and March 2013.

Use of sodium polyphosphates with different linear lengths in the production of spreadable processed cheese.

The objective of this study was to describe the dependence of textural properties (hardness, cohesiveness, and relative adhesiveness) of processed cheese spreads on the proportion of disodium phosphate (DSP), tetrasodium diphosphate (TSPP), and sodium salts of polyphosphate in ternary mixtures of emulsifying salts. Sodium salts of polyphosphate with different mean lengths (n ≈ 5, 9, 13, 20, and 28) were used. Pentasodium triphosphate (PSTP) was used instead of TSPP in the second part of the study.
