Carbapenem-resistant group organisms (CRAB) are challenging because the choice between targeted, new antibiotic drug options and hygiene measures should be guided by a timely identification of resistance mechanisms. In CRAB, acquired class-D carbapenemases (CHDLs) are active against meropenem and imipenem. If PCR methods are not the first choice, phenotypic methods have to be implemented.

We repor there on a 16-year-old patient who presented with pain and swelling in the hypothenar eminence as well as loss of sensibility in the fingers of the region innervated by the ulnar nerve; this happened 2-3 weeks after an injury by a glass splinter in his proximal palm. A pseudoaneurysm could be verified by duplex sonography. The patient wished to avoid any graft for arterial bridging for religious reasons.

Objective: To compare surgical and conservative management in patients with acute calcific bursitis of the hand, a rare condition often misdiagnosed because of its unspecific symptoms.

Method: Four patients with calcific bursitis at the metacarpophalangeal or distal interphalangeal joints or the pisiform are presented. Of these, 3 underwent surgery, while one was treated conservatively.
