Fatal Oedipism: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Purpose: To describe a unique case of a fatal self-enucleation and review previously published cases.

Methods: The authors describe a unique case of a complete unilateral self-enucleation while under the influence of drugs, which resulted in severe intracranial hemorrhages, right internal carotid artery opacification, and death. A literature review was performed by searching articles published before January 2023 in the Pubmed/MEDLINE database using the keywords "auto-enucleation or self-enucleation.

The Matthew Effect: Prevalence of Doctor and Physician Parents among Ophthalmology Applicants.

 This article determines the prevalence of physician parents among ophthalmology residency applications.  Retrospective, single-center cohort study.  All applicants to the University of Kentucky Ophthalmology Residency between 2018 and 2023.

Glaucoma after penetrating keratoplasty and keratoprosthesis.

Purpose: To compare visual and glaucoma outcomes in patients with known glaucoma after a penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) or a Boston Keratoprosthesis Type 1 (KPro) as a second corneal replacement procedure.

Design: Retrospective interventional case series.

Participants: Charts of 141 eyes that underwent either a PKP or KPro at the Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal after one failed PKP from 2008 to 2020 were reviewed.

Characterisation of Ferritin-Lymphocyte Ratio in COVID-19.

The ferritin-lymphocyte ratio (FLR) is a novel inflammatory biomarker for the assessment of acute COVID-19 patients. However, the prognostic value of FLR for predicting adverse clinical outcomes in COVID-19 remains unclear, which hinders its clinical translation. We characterised the prognostic value of FLR in COVID-19 patients, as compared to established inflammatory markers.

Low CRB-65 Scores Effectively Rule out Adverse Clinical Outcomes in COVID-19 Irrespective of Chest Radiographic Abnormalities.

CRB-65 (onfusion; espiratory rate ≥ 30/min; lood pressure ≤ 90/60 mmHg; age ≥ years) is a risk score for prognosticating patients with COVID-19 pneumonia. However, a significant proportion of COVID-19 patients have normal chest X-rays (CXRs). The influence of CXR abnormalities on the prognostic value of CRB-65 is unknown, limiting its wider applicability.
